About Us

Kathleen Burkinshaw
I am a Japanese American author, the daughter of a Hiroshima survivor and resides in Charlotte, NC. I am a wife, mom, and own a dog who thinks she’s a kitchen ninja.
In 2019 I spoke about my mother’s experience in Hiroshima at the United Nations (NYC) and on UN virtual events for the 75th anniversary of atomic bombing. I have presented to middle/high schools around the world for the past 10 years. I have also been a featured guest on NHK World Japan, Asian American Magazines, and on numerous podcasts.
Writing gives me an outlet for my daily struggle with chronic pain from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.

Maureen Gendron
I am an animal lover, coffee addict, and computer geek navigating a late diagnosis of ADHD and OCD.
Kathleen and Maureen met when they were 5 and 4 1/2 years old, respectively. Maureen’s family (with Dad, Mom, and 6 older siblings) moved in across the street from Kathleen’s family (with Mom & Dad).
